Lifestyle Diet Reset Day #4

Lifestyle Diet Reset Day #4  – People always ask me why I don’t eat more protein.

When I was learning about nutrition with Cornell, I was taught about some of the drawbacks of high-protein, high-fat diets. In the short term, they are very effective, but what do these diets do to your body over time?

  • hard on your liver
  • hardens the arteries
  • difficult to sustain
  • too much sodium
  • affects your ability to have restful sleep
  • can be inflammatory (cause arthritis, etc.)
  • expensive!

Always confirm your own dietary concerns or questions with your doctor. I’m not a medical professional.

My solution is, don’t stop eating the things you love, just try to watch your portions of the items you know are not ideal for your body. For instance, if you love bacon, don’t try to stop eating it. You will either fail or be unhappy about it. Have a slice of bacon, now and then, just don’t have five or six slices! Two is an average serving if you are feeling indulgent on a Sunday morning. Read packages, there will be a serving size listed on it. There’s a reason for that…

I don’t like typing organic over and over again. Just know that about 80% of what I eat is organic.

Don’t forget to take a walk, if you can, and stay hydrated. Sometimes in the evening, I have a cup of roasted dandelion tea. My Italian relatives swear by dandelion to flush the liver and gallbladder. They would make salads with fresh dandelion leaves (with no pesticides!)

Connie, my grandmother, used to start her day with a warm glass of water with lemon. She smoked like a chimney and lived to be 90, so go figure.
