A full year before the word “shrinkflation” was being tossed about, Elizabeth talked about the disturbing trend of smaller quantities of food, sold to the unsuspecting customer in smaller containers and packages for the same price.  We see it in canned and jarred foods.  You can also see in the the dairy section with smaller containers of milk, cheese, and even something as simple as a cheese stick.

Greedy deceitful food producers are exploiting this inflationary period,  secretly shrinking product sizes while maintaining or in some cases, increasing prices!  There’s no other way of saying this… food processors are STEALING from “We The Consumers.”  This deceptive practice, known as shrinkflation, allows companies to hide their shrinking goods behind the shied of horrible government & the fed’s financial policies.   The result is consumers paying more for less, a form of invisible theft that feels like another tax imposed by the hidden hand of government. As prices rise and portions shrink, people are left with fewer choices and dwindling value, all while being manipulated by corporations with little oversight or accountability

About Elizabeth Dougherty

Elizabeth Dougherty has been cooking and writing about food intensively for more than ten years. She is the fourth generation of chefs and gourmet grocers in her family with her mother, Francesca Esposito and grandmother, Carmella being major influences in her early cooking years. As a teenager, her family sent her to Europe where she became focused on French and Italian cuisine. She survived a year and half of culinary tutelage under a maniacal Swiss-German chef and is a graduate of NYIT, Magna Cum Laude with a Bachelor’s degree in Hospitality, Business and Labor Relations.
