If you’ve ever stepped into an RV built between 2013 – 2018, you’ll notice something terrible. The upholstery on that expensive couch, as well as the driver’s and passenger’s seats are deteriorating. During those years, (which coincided with the consolidation of the RV industry) cheap imported vinyl material was used. Over time, the combination of heat and humidity has caused a separation of that plastic leather (pleather) from its backing and the furniture looks (and smells) terrible.
In an attempt to cover up this mess, (and limit their liability) the industry claims this is a natural process called “hydrolysis” and it happens all the time. Funny, we DON’T see this happenings to the seats in cars/trucks built between 2013 – 2018!
What can be done about it? Turns out once it’s started, it can’t be reversed.
