You pick up the phone and call the reservation department of the rental car company you want to use. You give them your info and when you arrive at their office, usually the car would be waiting.
Then everything was moved online. So you’d type in all your info and if you were lucky, a car might be there.
Now it’s 2021. The rental car companies aren’t purchasing new cars, blaming Covid lockdowns and restricted travel. Algorithms are in place to favor one class of renter over another. Business travelers can easily located a rental car through special backroom corporate and fleet deals. You, the regular guy (or girl) who wants to rent a car for a few days… well, you’re SCREWED!
