Despite the catchy campaign slogan “no tax on tips,” there’s a sneaky charge you might not be aware of.
Depending upon your state, and the credit/debit card payment system used, we’ve uncovered that sales tax may actually be applied to the post-tip amount of your bill. This means you could be paying tax on the tip you leave for your server, raising questions about how much of your money is really going where you intend. Is this just another way for the system to squeeze a few more dollars out of unsuspecting diners?
